Pembroke Labs, LLC is a California-based software company. We build productivity and organizational tools designed to help real people do more with less friction — without asking them to hand over their data to get there.
Every product we build is held to one standard: privacy by default. We keep information on your device wherever we can, send only what's strictly necessary to make a feature work, and never sell your data or track you for engagement.
We focus on three things: helping people stay organized without adding overhead, applying automation where it genuinely saves time rather than adding complexity, and protecting privacy by keeping data on-device wherever possible — and being precise about what leaves it, and why.
Hey Toru! didn't start as a market opportunity. It started because our founder has ADHD and OCD — the specific combination of losing a thought before it's written down, and needing everything perfectly filed before you're allowed to move on.
Most note apps assume you have neither problem. Toru is built for people who have both: catch the thought first, worry about organizing it never.
We don't collect data we don't need. Every product is built from the ground up so information lives on the device, not in our infrastructure, unless a feature explicitly requires it — and when it does, we say so.
We use intelligent automation to reduce cognitive load, not to dress up a product with features no one asked for. If it doesn't save time, it doesn't ship.
